The Mad Wife

By Meagan Church

This book started off a little slow. Typical 1950s household where the husband works and the wife stays one to keep house and watch the children. Lulu doesn’t want to be this typical cleaning housewife. She doesn’t love the schedule and would rather spy on the house across the street. You can tell that something is wrong with Lulu but she won’t admit it to herself. Her friends try to support her but cannot seem to reach her. Things get interesting when a new neighbor moves in. She is spying on Bitsy and constantly trying to find out all sorts of information about her. She is insulted when the kids aren’t allowed to play together. Lulu is also sneaking Bitsy’s cat into her house at night while her husband and kids are sleeping. She keeps it from everyone. She is nervous when her husband and Bitsy’s husband seem to form a bond. Lulu tries to spy on them but gets it all confused. There were a few twists and turns that you didn’t see coming. I really started to feel for Lulu and her situation but it seemed drawn out a little. Her time in the hospital was interesting as well and she did her best to stay true to herself but still couldn’t admit what was wrong with her. I did really enjoy the ending and all in all was a good read.
