Shatter me

by Tahereh Mafi

This book is intense! The world as we know it is over and some crazy reestablishment group has taken over the world. Poor Juliette has been an outcast and is locked up for killing someone and she just tries to get through the day. She has accepted she will be alone. No one can touch her. If they do, they will die. Tahereh Mafi’s writing is impressive. This new world she has created is masterful. Her character development is brilliant. You can’t help but feel sorry for everything Julliette has to go through due to her unique ability. Warner, the one in charge of her asylum, sends his soldier in to test the waters with her. To see if she can be cooperative with people. Adam, this soldier, has known her since they were kids. He loved her from afar and now is his chance to help her. Julliette loved him before she accidentally hurt someone. Somehow Adam can touch her and doesn’t get hurt. It’s like the stars align for these two. Warner wants to use her as a weapon. She is scared and afraid but stands up for herself when having to deal with Warner on a regular basis. This kid is creepy but once you hear some of Warner’s back story I couldn’t help but feel sorry for him too. I don’t want him to succeed and I should hate him but I can’t. This first book of the series sucks you in and I couldn’t put it down. I absolutely loved it.
