This was an interesting spin on beauty and the beast. Denver and his team of ghost hunters head to Louisiana to investigate a woman’s disappearance from 1862. Denver researches to try and find out what happened to her. Strange things start happening while they are near the house and Denver feels this pull to the house he can’t deny. He is immersed in the story and I totally see the appeal. The mystery behind the locked room in the house, his fascination with her painting, the strange noises and alligator on the premises every day. This was intriguing at first but then seemed to be drawn out, investigating and searching for clues. This is a slightly slower pace than I expected which gave less time for what I feel is the real important part in helping Katherine. The second part of the story felt rushed and although you can feel the connection between them, their bonding felt pushed. There wasn’t true romance and I did not feel their connection other than Denver’s annoyance that she was not the person he thought she was when he would stare at her painting. Katherine is a spoiled rich girl and makes it hard to feel bad for her being cursed. She doesn’t go through much of a transformation or any type of real character growth where I feel she deserves her happy ending or Denver’s love. I’m sure this book will appeal to many and will be enjoyed. It wasn’t my cup of tea but not all will be. It was a quick read and I did like the similarities along with the author giving their own twist to a classic tale.
