If he had been with me

I hadn’t read anything by Laura Nowlin previously so I wasn’t sure how her style would be. This tragedy sucked me in from the start. Multiple twists and turns, in-depth complex characters, this story has it all. Autumn and Finn were inseparable until middle school. Until Finn kissed her and she froze. She ran away and couldn’t deal with what that kiss could mean. They grew apart and became almost distant strangers passing by. Now in high school, neither of them remember the cause of their distance and while Finn has always been in love with Autunm, she is now realizing her true feelings but it is too late.

One night they finally discuss everything. Finn confesses his love, Autumn acknowledges hers, and they can finally be together. Tragedy hits and takes Finn from her. Now she is processing what happened, why it happened and reflecting over what she could have done differently. This story grabbed me from the start and kept me on the edge of seat until the end. I couldn’t put it down. I was so upset that they wouldn’t get their happy ending but I guess not everyone can. This story teaches us to live in the moment. Don’t let things pass by. Go after what you want.
